The Jefferson Awards are presented by WBNS-10TV to recognize individuals who do extraordinary things to make their communities better places in which to live.

The national Jefferson Awards were created by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Sen. Robert Taft, Jr., of Ohio in 1972 to highlight the works of unsung heroes. Here on the local level, Jefferson Awards nominees serve Central Ohio in a variety of ways. They volunteer at schools, community centers and service organizations. One parent founded a virtual support group for mothers of special needs children. A senior citizen ships care packages to US troops overseas. A teenager raises support and funds for victims of human trafficking.   All go above and beyond to have an impact on the world around them.

They are your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers … people of all ages, all walks of life, all on the same mission … to make life better.

So write a brief, passionate, compelling story about your favorite volunteer. Tell us what distinguishes them as an individual. Then tell us how his or her actions benefit the lives of others and the community.

Log on to 10tv.com and click on the Jefferson Awards icon to nominate a volunteer. Nomination deadline is 11:59pm on Friday, February 13, 2015.
