Remembering 9/11

COLUMBUS – A variety of events are taking place in central Ohio to mark the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, that left nearly 3,000 people dead.

There are nearly 3,000 flags on display on the west lawn of the Statehouse to honor the 2,977 lives lost during the attacks.

Governor Mike DeWine has ordered all U.S. and Ohio flags be flown at half-staff on public buildings and grounds from sunrise to sunset on Patriot Day.

The city of Columbus, Franklin County and the National Veterans Memorial and Museum will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at noon and the downtown museum will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with free admission.

Historic Crew Stadium will host the inaugural 9/11 Climb where Ohio State Highway Patrol cadets will complete as many stairsteps, burpees, sit ups, lunges and air squats as possible in 41 minutes 20 seconds representing the 412 first responders who lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Flight 93.

Educational sign exhibits have been displayed at First Responders Park in Westerville and 2,977 American flags are waving on the four corners of the Village Green in Worthington to honor those who died.

There will be a remembrance ceremony at First Responders Park in Hilliard.

American Legion Paschall Post #164 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 8198 host a Prayer and Remembrance Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the Jackson Township Fire Department, Station 204, 4900 Buckeye Parkway.
