Third man indicted in mail thefts

COLUMBUS – Authorities say they’ve arrested a third man suspected of being a member of a ring of thieves who stole keys to open U.S. Postal Service mailboxes and steal checks.

Cody “Drose” Beasley, of Columbus, was already in federal custody when he was named in a superseding indictment returned in federal court on August 3 naming him as one of the three men who held up a mail carrier at gunpoint while he sat in his work vehicle on Sawmill Road in Dublin on April 4 and forced him to hand over his “arrow key,” which opens mail collection boxes, according to a release from the office of U.S. Attorney Kenneth Parker.

According to court documents, 21-year-old Mahad Jama, of Westerville, approached the USPS vehicle and brandished a handgun and 18-year-old Da’mon May, of Columbus, provided him and demanded the carrier’s U.S. Postal Service key.

Beasley, 22, is alleged to have aided and abetted them in that robbery, Parker said.

Parker’s office and partner law enforcement agencies continue to investigate a network of individuals involved in stealing Postal Service keys for the purpose of stealing checks from collection boxes, Parker said.
