COLUMBUS – An 11-year-old girl was killed when the car she was riding in collided with a tractor-trailer in northern Franklin County early Tuesday morning.
Columbus accident investigators say the girl was riding in a Kia which was traveling northbound on U.S. 23/N. High Street and was turning left onto Lazelle Road at 6:36 a.m. when it collided with a southbound semi that was passing through the intersection.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene and both drivers were taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in stable condition, police said.
The Columbus police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
The accident shut down U.S. 23 in both directions and closed off access to the northbound lanes from I-270 for several hours during the day.
