13-year-old among 3 killed in East Side shootings

COLUMBUS – A 13-year-old boy died early Sunday after being injured in a shooting on the East Side that left another juvenile dead and a third injured.

The incident happened about 20 minutes before another deadly shooting a few miles away, Columbus police said.

Officers responding to a reported shooting in the 700 block of Stelzer Road just before midnight found three juveniles suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, Sgt. Dave Harrington of the Homicide Unit said.

One of the victims, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus Division of Fire personnel while the other two were taken to nearby hospitals where Tauron Durham died from his injuries just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday, Harrington said

The third victim is expected to survive.

Police are still investigating the incident and no suspects were named.

At 12:10 a.m. Saturday, officers found Malik Islam, 46, lying in the street in the 2000 Block of Cornell Street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit.

Malik was transported to a local hospital in critical condition by Mifflin Township paramedics and was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m.

During the initial investigation, Shimberg says it was determined that Malik was having a conversation with the suspect when he was shot.

The suspect has not been named and the investigation continues, Shimberg said.
