16-year-old among 2 suspects arrested in teen’s death

COLUMBUS – A teen and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on murder charges in the death of a 17-year-old who died Wednesday, a day after being shot in South Linden.

Police officers called to the 1600 block of Cleveland Avenue at 9:34 p.m. on Hallowe’en night on a report of a shooting found Dezmond Vaughn-Butler suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.

Vaughn-Butler died the following night at an area hospital and detectives filed arrest warrants charging Chrissean Houston, 16, and Dante Johnston, 18, with murder.

Columbus police SWAT officers arrested both suspects on Thursday, Marable said.

The investigation into Vaughn-Butler’s death is ongoing.
