19 killed on highways over Labor Day weekend

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that 19 people died in traffic accidents over the four-day Labor Day weekend, nearly four times as many as last year but only slightly more than 2020 and 2021.

According to data released Tuesday, there were 18 fatal traffic accidents in Ohio. Only five people died in traffic accidents during the Labor Day holiday in 2022, compared with 17 in 2021 and 15 in 2020, the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Troopers also arrested four murder suspects over the weekend, including one from Delaware County.

Troopers arrested two suspects who were wanted on murder charges from Monroe, Mich., on Saturday; a suspect who was wanted for murder in Chicago on Sunday and a suspect in a multiple homicide in Delaware County on Monday.
