2 dead in triple shooting at South Side bar

COLUMBUS – Columbus police are investigating a triple shooting that left two 24-year-old women dead late Wednesday night at a bar on the South Side.

Officers responding to a reported shooting at Double D’s Pub in the 1500 Block of South High Street at approximately 11:38 p.m. found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Sgt. David Harrington of the Homicide Unit.

Tavia Copley was pronounced dead at scene by Columbus Division of Fire paramedics while Taya Mollette was taken to a hospital where she died just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Harrington said.

The third adult victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive their wounds.

Woman charged with causing man’s fatal overdose and robbing him

Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman on a murder charge for allegedly giving a man drugs, which caused a fatal overdose, and then stealing from the man when he became incapacitated, Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

Joseph Crumpler was found suffering from an apparent overdose in the 2900 block of Azelda Avenue in North Linden on Jan. 15 and died later at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, Marable said.

When questioned by investigators, Rebecca Auborn admitted to supplying Crumpler, 30, with the narcotics that caused his death and stealing from him while he was incapacitated, Marable said.

She has been charged with murder, robbery, felonious assault and corrupting another with drugs.

An 18-year-old man wanted for a murder on the Southeast Side last month has been arrested in another state, police said.
