3 shootings in 2 hours

COLUMBUS – One person was killed and two others were hurt in separate shooting incidents in a span of two hours early Wednesday.

A man walked into a hospital just after 12:30 a.m. with gunshot wounds in the upper body, apparently suffered in an incident in the 2900 block of E. 10th Avenue, according to Sgt. Mark Eickholt of the Columbus police Felony Assault Unit. The 32-year-old victim was listed in stable condition.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting at Barnett Road and Livingston Avenue just after 1:10 a.m. were approached by a man carrying another man in front of the Chez Rama restaurant at 3669 E Livingston Avenue and asking for help, Sgt. Doug Jones of the Felony Assault Unit said.

Officers observed that the 21-year-old victim had bullet wounds to his back and left forearm and the officers administered first aid until Columbus Division of Fire paramedics arrived and took the man to Mt. Carmel East Medical Center where he went into surgery but is expected to fully recover, Jones said.

Officers were able to locate a scene where the incident occurred, Jones said.

At 2:30 a.m., officers dispatched to the 5700 Block of Beechcroft Road on a shooting found a 32-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit.

UPDATE 7/13/23 8:42 a.m.: This article has been updated to include the name of the deceased, released by police.

Madan Thapa was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition and died at 2:58 a.m., Shimberg said.

Lok Nath Acharya, 25, was charged with reckless homicide and taken to the Franklin County Jail, Shimberg said.

This incident remains under investigation.
