CCS chooses interim for permanent superintendent’s job

COLUMBUS – Ohio’s largest school district has a new boss.

After a search of several weeks, the Columbus City Schools Board of Education selected Dr. Angela Chapman as the next superintendent of the 46,000-student district, according to a release on the district’s website.

Chapman had been serving as interim superintendent since December, after Dr. Talisa Dixon announced that she would retire at the end of the school year. The board chose her after an extensive national search that began on March 27.

Chapman, who was one of three finalists being considered for the position, joined Columbus City Schools in June 2019 as the Chief of Transformation and Leadership after serving for five years in the District of Columbia Public Schools.

She has also held administrative positions in the Massillon City Schools, Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights and Euclid City Schools. She began her career in education as an elementary school teacher for five years in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District.

Chapman earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Akron and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Ashland University. She also holds a doctorate of education in curriculum and instruction from Tennessee State University.
