Clippers, Bats split doubleheader

LOUISVILLE – Bryan Lavastida’s RBI triple in the eighth inning gave Columbus a 5-4 win over the Louisville Bats in the opening game of a doubleheader at Louisville Slugger Field Friday.

The Bats won the nightcap, a makeup of the previous night’s rainout, 2-0.

Austin Wynns tied the score in the fourth with a sacrifice fly and it remained knotted at 4-4 until the first extra inning, when Lavastida sent a liner to right field to bring designated runner Daniel Schneemann around from second base.

Anthony Gose (1-0) retired the side in the bottom of the inning for the win.

The Bats scored twice in the sixth inning of the second game to spoil a nine-strikeout shutout by Clippers starter Connor Gillispie.
