COLUMBUS – After waiting out a two-hour delay due to stormy weather, the Crew and the Tigres UANL played to a 1-1 draw against in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals Tuesday night at Lower.com Field.
Andre-Pierre Gignac opened the scoring with a header from the center of the box in the 18th minute and Diego Rossi netted the equalizer, left-footing a shot off a pass from Aidan Morris.
Patrick Schulte made three saves for Columbus while Carlos Rodriguez stopped five shots for Club Tigres.
The Crew and Tigres UANL face off in in the second leg of the quarterfinals at Estadio Universitario in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on April 9.
The Crew can advance to the semifinals for the first time in club history with a victory or a draw where both teams score two or more goals. In the event the match is tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the contest will proceed to extra time and potentially penalty kicks. The Tigres would advance with a win or a 0-0 draw.
