COLUMBUS – Eleven days before the first game of the football season, the Ohio State starting quarterback job is still up for grabs.
Coach Ryan Day says he’s hasn’t decided yet who his starter will be for the Sept. 2 opener at Indiana and hasn’t discounted the idea that both Kyle McCord and Devin Brown will play if one doesn’t pull ahead in the derby.
“We don’t have to make that decision right now but I can tell you that I am pleased with their progress and our staff feels strong with both of them playing,” Day told reports Monday.
McCord and Brown split reps in Saturday’s scrimmage and Day thinks either one could handle the pressure-cooker job.
McCord is a third-year player who has spent the past two seasons backing up two-time Heisman Trophy finalist C.J. Stroud.
Harrison leads 3 Buckeyes on All-America team
Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is one of three Ohio State players named to The Associated Press preseason All-America team, where he is joined by fellow receiver Emeka Egbuka and linebacker Tommy Eichenberg.
Ohio State is second only to defending national champion Georgia in the number of players on the team.
Harrison, Michigan running back Blake Corum and Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams of USC are among the returning first-team All-Americans who were selected to the preseason team.
