Day brings Chip Kelly to OSU as OC

COLUMBUS – Veteran college and NFL coach Chip Kelly is headed for Columbus to take over as the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced Friday.

Day says Kelly, who resigned as UCLA head coach earlier in the day, has accepted a three-year contract, through the 2026 season.

With spring football drills starting March 5, Day acted quickly in the wake of Bill O’Brien’s departure from the program to become the head coach at Boston College.

Kelly coached Day at New Hampshire and Day later coached with Kelly there and for two years with the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL.

Kelly served as Bruins head coach for six seasons, compiling a 35-34 record.

UCLA ranked 17th nationally in rushing in 2023 and set a school record with 503.6 total yards per game in 2022.
