Day: McCord is THE starting QB

COLUMBUS – Ohio State head coach Ryan Day removed the invisible asterisk beside Kyle McCord’s name on the Buckeyes’ depth chart, naming him the starting quarterback after two games.

“After reviewing the film, we decided that Kyle’s going to be the starter and make that distinction,” Day told reports at his weekly press briefing Tuesday.

Day has refrained from naming a definitive starter after McCord and Devin Brown competed throughout the offseason to replace C.J. Stroud, but committed to the third-year player, who has seen most of the playing time in two games, citing McCord’s “overall consistency.”

“He made some nice throws, he kept the offense going, he came out of the gates playing efficient football, and that’s what we’re looking for moving forward,” Day said.

McCord has thrown for 497 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.

Brown is 8 for 16 in two games against Indiana and Youngstown State.

“It gives Kyle, first off, peace of mind that I think he realizes he is the starter,” Day said. “He earned that opportunity.”

Away from home

Ohio State doesn’t play in Ohio Stadium again until Oct. 7 against Maryland. The team plays at
