Diebler named head OSU men’s hoops coach

COLUMBUS – Jake Diebler, who took over when Chris Holtmann was fired, was named head men’s basketball coach at Ohio State Sunday.

Diebler, the 15th head coach in men’s basketball program history, will have a five-year contract, Senior Advisor for Intercollegiate Athletics Ross Bjork said.

The native of Fostoria is the first Ohioan to be named Buckeye head coach in 35 years.

After taking the reins as interim head coach on Feb. 14 he led the Buckeyes to a 6-2 record over the last month of the season, including an upset over No. 2-ranked Purdue and a five-game winning streak that included a victory over Iowa in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.
