COLUMBUS – Motorists traveling through downtown Columbus this weekend will have to navigate detours due to the complete closure of I-70 in both directions for bridge demolition.
From 11:00 p.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday, I-70 will be closed between SR 315 and I-71 at the East Side split for demolition of the Front Street bridge over the interstate, part of the ongoing Downtown Ramp Up project.
Detours:
- From the West: I-70 eastbound to I-670 eastbound to I-71 southbound to I-70 eastbound.
- From the East: I-70 northbound to I-670 westbound to SR 315 southbound to I-70 westbound.
The following ramps will also close:
- The I-71 northbound ramp to I-70 eastbound/I-71 northbound
- The I-71 southbound ramp to I-70 westbound/I-71 southbound
- The SR 315 southbound ramp to I-70 eastbound
- The Mound St./2nd St. ramp to I-70 westbound

The multi-year project, due to wrap up in 2025, will widen and reconstruct roadways, replace bridges over the interstate, rebuild ramps, and construct new surface streets parallel to the interstate through one of the busiest stretches of roadway in Ohio.
