COLUMBUS – Early voting began Monday for the Aug. 8 special election in Ohio.
Registered voters can cast ballots at county boards of elections until Aug. 6.
The only issue on the ballot would raise the threshold for passing future state constitutional amendments from a simple majority in place since 1912 to a 60% supermajority.
Under new voter identification laws, voters will need to bring photo IDs to their polling places.
Valid forms of identification for voting in Ohio:
- Ohio driver’s license or ID card
- Interim ID form issued by the Ohio BMV
- US passport or passport card
- US military ID card, Ohio National Guard ID card
- US Department of Veterans Affairs ID card
All documents must be valid and unexpired
The following documents are not acceptable:
- Social Security card
- Birth certificate
- Insurance card
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Government check
- Paycheck
- Out-of-state driver’s license or photo ID
- Other government document
- Registration acknowledgment notice from the county board of elections
Voters who do not provide one of the above forms of photo ID will still be able to vote using a provisional ballot. However, for that ballot to be counted, the voter must return to the board of elections and provide a qualifying form of identification no later than four days following Election Day, according to Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s website.
