COLUMBUS – Mystery surrounds the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting of a man at a Merion Village home early Friday.
Updates with suspect’s identity
When officers responded to the 1400 Block of S. 5th Street, where a woman reported an assault at 12:33 a.m. they found Rickey Williams lying on the front porch unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound, according to Sgt. David Shimberg of the Columbus police Homicide Unit.
The officers were told by the 19-year-old victim that Williams would not allow her to leave.
The 39-year-old Williams was pronounced deceased at the scene by Columbus Division of Fire personnel and the victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries, Shimberg said.
Detectives are still attempting to determine what led to the shooting and Shimberg says police the suspect’s name is being withheld until his family can be notified.
This incident remains under investigation.
