COLUMBUS – A grandmother is being called a hero after she died trying to save her grandchildren from a house fire early Tuesday morning in Jefferson Township on the Far East Side.
Four people were in the house and the woman got two girls, ages 10 and 12, outside and went back in to save her grandson, Jefferson Township Fire Chief Bradford Shull told WBNS 10-TV.
The fire was reported just before 2:15 a.m. in the 8600 block of Greylag Street.
Officials said the fire alarm and smoke from inside the home alerted the girls about the fire.
