COLUMBUS – Nine people were killed on Ohio roadways this Christmas holiday weekend, the fewest deaths during a Christmas reporting period since 2018, according to preliminary data from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The deaths occurred in eight fatal accidents over the four-day Christmas reporting period, which began Friday at midnight and ran through 11:59 p.m. on Monday.
In comparison, there were 12 people killed during the 2022 Christmas holiday, which ran from December 23 to 26, the patrol reported.
Three of the fatalities were reported in Franklin County, including the deaths of two juveniles in a crash at the intersection of W. Lane Avenue and Carmack Road late Friday night and a 42-year-old woman who was struck and killed on Christmas Day.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Alisha Spence, who died after being hit while walking in the intersection of Fairwood Avenue and Smith Road on the South Side just after 7:00 p.m.
