Knights hand Clippers loss in Huntington Park season opener

COLUMBUS – The dogs were hot but so was Lenyn Sosa, whose three-run home run in the third inning gave the Charlotte Knights all the offense they would need in a 6-2 win over the Clippers in their home opener at Huntington Park Tuesday night.

Balmy spring weather and the crowd-pleasing Dime-a-Dog Night promotion brought over 8,000 fans out to the ballpark but the Clippers (0-4) lost their fourth game in a row.

Sosa’s homer off Clippers starter Peyton Battlefield (0-1) gave Charlotte a 3-0 lead and Andrew Perez (1-0), who took over in the third inning and the Knights bullpen made the lead stand up.

Doubles by Brayan Rocchio and Zack Collins accounted for the Columbus scoring.

The second game of the six-game series is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Wednesday though there is a threat of severe weather.
