COLUMBUS – A man was killed and a woman was injured when were shot in front of their children by an intruder in their Northeast Side home late Sunday night.
Brandon Gilliam and his 28-year-old live-in girlfriend were at their home in the 6100 block of Laurelwood Court with their five children just before midnight when an unknown suspect forced their way into the home, shooting and killing Gilliam, 28, and critically wounding the woman, Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus police homicide unit said.
Some of the children witnessed the shooting and Marable says they assisted their mother so she could call 911 and summon help.
Gilliam was pronounced dead at the scene just after midnight Monday while the woman was taken to a hospital where she remained in critical condition early Monday, Marable said.

Two dead in separate shootings
Police have named no suspects in two fatal shooting incidents last week.
Edgar Romero-Gutierrez, 53, was found shot to death by officers responding to a shooting report in the 2200 block of Webster Canyon Court just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Michael Smith of the homicide unit said.
UPDATE 5/4/23 7:39 a.m.: Arrest warrants were filed on April 30 for suspects Kenneth Baffour and Joseph Mansary, both 21, on charges of murder in the death of Romero-Gutierrez.
Mansary was arrested by Columbus SWAT officers on May 3, but Baffour remains at-large, Smith said.
A 34-year-old man died Friday, three days after he was found shot inside a crashed vehicle on the East Side, police said.
Officers found Brian Borghetti suffering from a gunshot wound in a crashed vehicle outside 771 Northview Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m. on April 25, homicide unit detectives said.
He was taken to OhioHeath Grant Medical Center where he died Friday afternoon.
Homicide detectives continue their investigation.
