DELAWARE – The man who has been serving as Delaware County’s acting sheriff is “acting” no longer. Jeffrey Balzer now has the job officially.
The Delaware County Republican Central Committee on Thursday chose Balzer as the county’s 42nd sheriff, replacing Russ Martin, who retired earlier this year, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
Balzer was named acting sheriff by the Delaware County Commissioners on April 17 and will serve out Martin’s term, which ends on Jan. 5th, 2025.
Balzer has more than 38 years of law enforcement experience, previously serving as a Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio.
He joined the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in 2016 when former Martin recruited him to serve as a Chief Deputy with oversight of the jail and county courts.
