Ohio politicians split on Trump idictment

COLUMBUS – Reaction to the indictment of former president Donald Trump is falling predictably along party lines among Ohio politicians.

Republican Congressman Jim Jordan calls it “outrageous” while Democrat Joyce Beatty of Columbus says it shows that “no person is above the law.”

“In the months to come, let’s hope our judicial system does what it’s intended for — to deliver justice for ALL. Today shows that no person — not even a former President — is above the law!” -U.S. Rep Joyce Beatty (D-Columbus)

Republican Sen. JD Vance says it’s “political persecution masquerading as law.”

“This entire charade is predicated on an unprecedented, doomed-to-fail legal theory and a baseless misdemeanor charge from seven years ago. While the radical left continues their obsession with harassing Donald Trump, the American people are suffering. Families are struggling to put food on the table, violent crime is running rampant in our cities, and thousands have been poisoned by the fentanyl pouring across our southern border.” -U.S. Sen. JD Vance (R-OH)

The exact nature of the charges against Trump was unclear Friday because the indictment remained under seal, but they stem from payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence adult film star Stormy Daniels about claims of an extramarital affair.

Trump could surrender early next week after being indicted by a Manhattan grand jury.
