COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio state senators have added more rail safety proposals in response to the East Palestine train derailment.
Senators passed their version of the nearly $13.5 billion state transportation budget Thursday and now have one week to work out differences with the House before sending the plan to the governor.
It mainly funds highway projects over two years.
The Senate proposal would require more wayside detectors to be installed at shorter intervals to identify problems along railways.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio would have to report to lawmakers about different kinds of trackside detectors and cameras.
