COLUMBUS (AP) — The two-year legal battle over maps of Ohio Statehouse districts crafted in response to the 2020 Census may be over.
In a 4-3, party-line ruling Monday, the Ohio Supreme Court cited unanimous, bipartisan passage in September of new legislative maps in dismissing three long-running constitutional challenges brought by Democratic and voting-rights groups.
That means the Ohio Redistricting Commission’s new maps will be in place through 2030, unless opponents file a new lawsuit or voters pass changes to Ohio’s redistricting system next November.
The court rejected as moot state requests to vacate earlier rulings that found Statehouse maps unconstitutional.
