“Operation Unity” crackdown targets East and Northeast side

COLUMBUS – Law enforcement agencies made more than two dozen felony arrests and confiscated guns, drugs and cash during the latest “Operation Unity” sweep, carried out last Thursday in several neighborhoods.

Patrol officers, intelligence units, major crimes detectives, SWAT and other agencies made 25 felony arrests, seized 24 guns, and confiscated fentanyl, marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine. Twenty-eight juveniles were served with citations for truancy, according to the Columbus Division of Police Public Information Office.

“Operation Unity” is a collaboration of law enforcement and social services working together in specific neighborhoods of the city.

The operation last Thursday focused on North Linden, South Linden, King-Lincoln Bronzeville, Mt. Vernon, Eastgate, Milo-Grogan and other areas on the East Side and Northeast Side of Columbus.

Patrol officers, criminal intelligence units, major crimes detectives, SWAT, drug crimes units, traffic operations units, and other local and statewide agencies “served search warrants and initiated targeted enforcement designed to specifically address violent offenders, recover firearms, and confiscate illegal narcotics,” the division said.

Along with the Division of Police, the Columbus City Attorney’s Office, Code Enforcement, Columbus Public Health, Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team, Ohio Investigative Unit, Rapid Response Emergency Addiction Crisis Team, and other agencies participated.
