COLUMBUS – Ohio State University’s Board of Trustees was scheduled to meet on Friday to consider proposals that would boost the cost of attending classes and living on campus in Columbus by almost $800 a year.
Tuition and fees would increase tuition for incoming freshmen this fall by the 3% maximum allowed by state law, amounting to $374 more per year than last year.
In Columbus, in-state tuition and fees would total $12,859 per year for incoming first-year students while the most common housing and dining plans will increase by $416 to $14,382.
Tuition will then be frozen for four years for new in-state students.
Graduate tuition and fees would increase by 3.8% for Ohio residents, a change of about $500 for students on the Columbus campus.
The state’s public universities were forced to wait until after the two-year operating budget was signed into law to find out how much they would be allowed to raise tuition.
