Police arrest suspects in 2 homicides

COLUMBUS – Columbus police arrested two murder suspects, including a man wanted in the slaying of a convenience store owner on the Southeast Side.

Rico Hickson, 43, was arrested on Thursday after a brief standoff with SWAT officers as they attempted to serve a search warrant.

He was charged with one count of burglary and a murder charge was filed the following day in connection with the shooting death of 55-year-old Vijayakumar Nair, owner of Mike’s Carry Out and Grocery, on Hamilton Road on Wednesday, Sgt. Dave Harrington of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

SWAT officers arrested La’Chovin Wilson Friday on a murder charge in the fatal shooting of a man on the Hlltop on June 1, Harrington.

Wilson, 19, is accused of shooting 20-year-old Scott Darthard Jr. to death at the intersection of Belvidere Avenue and Fairmont Avenue.

Darthard died at the scene.

Police have released any further information.
