Police drop murder charges against one teen, arrest two others

COLUMBUS – Columbus police have dropped the charges against a 14-year-old boy who was the original suspect in the deadly shooting of a 15-year-old girl and have arrested two other teenagers in connection with the crime.

Charges originally filed against Michael McCurdy in connection with the shooting death of Unique Prater in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood on Dec. 31 were dropped following further investigation, according to detectives with the Columbus police Homicide Unit.

Murder charges were then filed against Calvin Curry, 14, and Demarioun Harmon, 16, and both were arrested without incident by SWAT officers on June 29.

Prater was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound by officers called to the 1200 Block of Atcheson Street and pronounced dead at the scene.
