Police: Fight ended in deadly shooting outside Sunbury Wendy’s

COLUMBUS – A fight is reportedly what led to a fatal shooting outside a Wendy’s in Sunbury Thursday afternoon.

A man is dead and a suspect is in custody after police were called to the Wendy’s on Miller Road around 2:00 p.m. on a report of an altercation between two people outside and when officers arrived, they found one man who was shot.

Sunbury Police Chief Rob Howard told WBNS 10-TV that the suspect called in to police dispatch after the incident and they were taken into custody nearby about 10 minutes after the shooting.

3 indicted in 2020 slaying outside Northeast Side bar

Three men have been indicted in connection with the 2020 murder of double shooting at a bar on the Northeast Side that left one man dead, police said.

The Franklin County grand jury on Thursday returned indictments against Marquis Smith and Gvon Thornton, both 29, and 21-year-old Aaron Clark in the murder of Dalan Wellman, Sgt. Edward Powell III of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting in the area of E. 5th Avenue and Joyce Avenue on July 26, 2020, were told that the actual scene of the incident was the Story Lounge, 1420 E. 5th Avenue, where the officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, Powell said.

Both victims were transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center where the 21-year-old Wellman died a little more than an hour later and Saidou Sarr, 19, was listed in stable condition.

Murder suspect under arrest

A 36-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on charges related to a deadly shooting at a Mifflin Township apartment complex in October, according to police.

Homicide Unit investigators on Wednesday filed an arrest warrant against Keith Hairston one one count of murder in the death of Anthony Cato, 38 , and he was arrested later that evening without incident by Columbus SWAT personnel, Sgt. Dave Harrington said.

Cato was found early on Oct. 17 on a sidewalk in the 2600 block of Divot Place and he died a few hours later at the hospital, Harrington said.
