COLUMBUS – Most of Ohio will be plunged into total darkness for nearly five minutes on April 8 as the moon passes between the sun and Earth.

Ohio’s tourism bureau has launched its Total Solar Eclipse map to make planning for event easier.

Several cities, including Cleveland, Dayton, Akron, Lima and Marysville are in the path of totality while 55 counties – including Franklin, Delaware, Licking and Madison — will experience at least a partial eclipse.

TourismOhio’s new interactive Total Solar Eclipse Map is intended to lure visitors to the state and help them plan their trip to Ohio with places to watch the eclipse.

Officials also hope to encourage visitors to “come early and stay late” by including an interactive list of viewing parties, festivals, and other events happening across the state, Gov. Mike DeWine said.
