Storms bring damaging winds

COLUMBUS – The same storm system that spawned a deadly tornado in Texas also brought hail and twisters to northwestern Ohio.

A barn was smashed and trees toppled in Sandusky County and power lines were downed in northern Toledo, leaving thousands without power.

UPDATE 6/17/23 10:36 a.m.: The National Weather Service in Cleveland has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Rice Township in Sandusky County and an EF-0 tornado touched down in Bellevue.

Wind gusts of more than 50 mph were reported at John Glenn Columbus International Airport and in London while trees were knocked down near Plain City and fell on a house near Piqua.

Severe storms spawned tornadoes that left at least four dead, three in Texas and one in Florida.

The National Weather Service confirmed that tornadoes touched down in western and southwestern Ohio Sunday.
