Suspect arrested in homicide

COLUMBUS – A man is behind bars, charged with murder in the death of another man on the East Side Saturday night.

Rieko Leohner, 39 (right), was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail after officers dispatched to the 800 block of South Champion Avenue on an unknown complaint at 8:54 p.m. found James Dawson Jr. unresponsive and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. David Shimberg of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

Callers to the Columbus police dispatch center reported that Dawson, 50, appeared to have been assaulted.

Investigators were able to develop a suspect and Leohner was arrested, Shimberg said.

According to a report by WBNS 10-TV, Leohner stabbed Dawson with a kitchen knife.

This incident remains under investigation.
