COLUMBUS – A Hilltop man is in jail, charged with the murder of a West Side man in a drive-by in July, police said.
Homicide Unit detectives filed an arrest warrant charging Salad Jeylani, 21, with murder in the shooting death of Osman Ali on July 22, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.
Jeylani turned himself in to police on Oct. 19 and is currently incarcerated in the Franklin County Jail.
Police officers called to the 1300 block of Crossing Green Lane on a report of a shooting found Ali, 20, seated in a car near his residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Ali was taken to Doctor’s West Hospital in critical condition, and was pronounced dead about an hour later, Marable said.
Police say Ali was sitting in the vehicle when Jeylani opened fire. No motive for the shooting was released. The investigation into Ali’s death is ongoing.
