Suspect in fatal shooting surrenders after standoff

COLUMBUS – A 60-year-old man is under arrest on a murder charge after holding police at bay following the fatal shooting of a woman at a Northeast Side shopping center.

Police say Stephan Turner shot Kandi Henderson to death at a shopping center in the 4800 block of Morse Road at approximately 4:37 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Dave Harrington of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting found the 42-year-old Henderson suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Mifflin Township paramedics took her to a hospital where she died about two hours later.

Turner barricaded himself inside a home about three miles away from the scene of the shooting and surrendered after a a standoff with Columbus SWAT personnel, Harrington said.

Police did not release any information about what led to the shooting.
