Man dead in Far East Side shooting
Police were looking for answers in a fatal shooting at a Far East Side apartment complex Tuesday night.
The victim had met with two males in a parking lot in the 900 block of Dressage Trace for undetermined reasons and one of the males shot the victim during the meeting, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.
Officers were called to the scene just before 9:45 p.m. found the adult victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. They were taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition and died there at 10:13 p.m., Marable said.
Detectives are still investigating what led to the shooting.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
No charges in man’s death during fight
Although the death of a 34-year-old man during a fight on the East Side the day after Thanksgiving has been ruled a homicide, police say no charges have been filed.
Anthony Reitan died at Mount Carmel East Hospital late on the night of Nov. 24 after police officers called to the 5400 block of Refugee Road just before 10:00 p.m. on the report of a disturbance, according to Homicide Unit investigators.
Prior to their arrival, additional callers to 911 reported that a fight occurred and one of the combatants was no longer breathing.
Reitan was transported by Truro Township paramedics but he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Franklin County Coroner’s office conducted an autopsy on Monday and ruled Reitan’s death a homicide due to his injuries.
The other combatant has not been charged with a crime and police did not release their name.
The case will be investigated by the Homicide Unit and ultimately referred to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s office for review and any potential charges.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
