Suspect shoots man, self

COLUMBUS – Police say a man apparently shot another man in an East Side apartment and then apparently turned the gun on himself Saturday morning.

Columbus officers dispatched to the Pinetree Village Apartments in the 3000 Block of Melissa Place on a report of a shooting at 11:31 a.m. found Brighton Davis inside the apartment suffering from a gunshot wound, Sgt. Terry McConnell of the Homicide Unit said.

Davis, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene and officers learned the suspect had fled the apartment with the firearm, McConnell said.

Officers searched the area and located the suspect, identified as David Jones, 26, approximately one block away in the 3000 block of Bexvie Avenue where he had sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, McConnell said.

Columbus Division of Fire paramedics pronounced the suspect dead at 12:22 p.m., McConnell said.

The nammes if the two men were not released pending notification of their families, McConnell said.

The investigation is continuing.
