COLUMBUS – A 17-year-old is in the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center, charged with the fatal shooting of another teenager on the Ohio Statehouse lawn last May.
A nearly year-long investigation by Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, the United States Marshal Service and the Columbus Division of Police wrapped up with the arrest of Travon Robinson, of Columbus, in connection with the shooting death of Broderick Harper, patrol spokesman Lt. Nathan Dennis said.
Columbus police and Highway Patrol troopers responding to gunshots at the northwest corner of the statehouse grounds at about 10:00 p.m. on May 29, 2022, found Harper, 16, suffering from gunshot wounds, patrol spokesperson Brice Nihiser said.
Officers tried to revive the victim but he was pronounced dead at shortly afterward
Nihiser said the shooting wasn’t related to any official business at the Ohio Statehouse, where the highway patrol provides security.
