Teen suspect in Dairy Queen shooting considered “armed and dangerous”

COLUMBUS – Police say a 16-year-old wanted in connection with the shooting death of a man during an exchange of gunfire at a North Side Dairy Queen last month is still at large and considered armed and dangerous.

Dreyton Lane is among five men and boys, ranging in age from 14 to 20 who have been charged with murder in connection with the death of Nathaniel Joe-Summerall, 19, who was killed while another person was injured during a shootout between two groups of people in the parking lot of a Dairy Queen in the 1500 block of Schrock Road on August 26, according to Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus police Homicide Unit.

The other four suspects are in custody, Marable said.

Police identify homicide victim

Police have released the name of a man who was killed in a double shooting on the Southeast Side early Sunday as Shawn Grooms, Sgt. David Harrington of the Homicide Unit said.

The 31-yer-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after being found by special-duty Columbus police officers responding to a reported shooting in the 6000 block of Channingway Boulevard at approximately 1:40 a.m., Harrington said.

A second man was transported to an area hospital by associates and is listed in stable condition, Harrington said.

Police have not yet determined what led up to the shooting and the incident is under investigation.

It is believed numerous possible witnesses fled the scene in the initial panic following the shooting and Harrington asks that any witnesses who fled prior to the officers’ arrival contact the Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
