Teen suspect in Dairy Queen shooting surrenders

COLUMBUS – A 16-year-old fugitive out of a deadly shooting at a North Side Dairy Queen last month has turned himself in.

Dreyton Lane is among five men and boys, including two 14-year-olds, who have been charged with murder in the death of Nathaniel Joe-Summerall during a shootout in the parking lot of a Dairy Queen on Schrock Road on August 26, Sgt. Scott LeRoy of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

Lane turned himself in at Columbus police headquarters on Wednesday, LeRoy said.

Along with Lane and two 14-year-old boys, Mehki Lewis, 18, and 20-year-old Kiyaire Terique Blow were charged in shooting, which happened after the men and boys gathered in the parking lot of the business in what police say appeared to be a planned meeting just before 2:30 p.m.

Shortly after they met, a fight broke out and there was an exchange of gunfire.

Joe-Summerall and a second adult were both wounded during this exchange. Joe-Summerall died at the scene and the second victim was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.
