Time for spring football at the ‘Shoe

COLUMBUS – Thousands of Buckeye football fans are expected to turn out for the LiFEsports Spring Game, presented by Union Home Mortgage, at Ohio Stadium Saturday.

Ohio State’s Spring Game kicks off at noon, but will not give those fans a chance to see the two quarterbacks battling to take over the starting job in the fall.

Devin Brown is competing with Kyle McCord to succeed C.J. Stroud but Brown had surgery on a finger on his right hand. Coach Ryan Day said McCord and Oregon State transfer Tristan Gebbia would be the top two quarterbacks in the game.

McCord has more experience than Brown and was Stroud’s top backup last year.

Brown redshirted last season and did not appear in a game.

The format for the game will feature the offensive squad in scarlet jerseys facing the defense wearing gray.

Tradition scoring will be used by the offensive while the defense will be able to score six points for a touchdown interception or fumble recovery, three points for a takeaway or holding the offense to a three-and-out, two points for a sack and one point for a forced punt.

The first three quarters will be 12-15 minutes with play clock stoppage and the fourth quarter will be 10-minutes with a running clock. Halftime will be 10 minutes long.

The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
