COLUMBUS – One man has been arrested and police are looking for another in connection with a shooting near the OSU campus early Friday that left a 25-year-old man dead and a sent a second man to the hospital.

This was the second fatal shooting in as many days in Columbus, which has seen more than 50 homicides in 2023.
Detectives arrested Raymond Ladd, 26, on a charge of murder for fatally shooting Deijon Bedgood during a fight between two groups of people in the 1700 block of N. High Street just after 2:30 a.m., Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus police homicide unit said.
Bedgood died at a hospital and a 27-year-old man was listed in stable condition at OSU Wexner Center, Marable said.
A second gunman has been identified by members of the public as Shemar Franklin, 25, of Columbus, who has been charged with murder and felonious assault.

Detectives say the incident began as an argument between two groups that escalated into a fistfight, during which Ladd and Franklin pulled handguns and began shooting, Marable said.
Students and the public were notified of the incident and advised to avoid the area near the intersection of 12th Avenue and N. High Street at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to social media posts.

Man killed in gas station shooting
Detectives are asking for help locating a man they say is connected to a shooting at a Franklinton gas station shooting early Thursday that left a 24-year-old man dead.
Police officers dispatched to the Shell station in the 1000 block of W. Broad Street on a reported shooting just before 1:00 a.m. found Saiesh Veera suffering from a gunshot wound, according to homicide unit detectives.
Saiesh died later at a hospital.
This incident remains under investigation.
