6 Buckeyes drafted

COLUMBUS – Two more Ohio State players were selected on the final day of the 2022 NFL draft, increasing the total number of Buckeyes chosen in Las Vegas to six.

This is the ninth consecutive draft in which Ohio State has had at least five players drafted.

Tyreke Smith was the fifth Buckeye drafted this year, going in the fifth round with the 158th overall pick, to the Seattle Seahawks.

And selected in the seventh round was All-American offensive lineman Thayer Munford, who went to the Las Vegas Raiders with the 238th overall pick.

Wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave were selected in the first round.

Wilson was selected with the 10th overall pick of the draft by the New York Jets during Thursday night’s opening round of the seven-round draft.

Olave, who set the school record with 35 touchdown catches in 2021, was selected with the next pick, going No. 11 overall in the first round to the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints drafted Olave at No. 11 after trading their third- and fourth-round picks to the Washington Commanders and moving up five spots.

Offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and tight end Jeremy Ruckert were selected on the second day of the draft.

A fourth-year junior who earned the starting right tackle job prior to the 2020 season, Petit-Frere was drafted by the Tennessee Titans with the fifth pick of the third round, the No. 69 selection overall.

Ruckert went No. 101 overall to the New York Jets in the third round. He scored 12 receiving touchdowns as a tight end to rank second in school history.

Georgia’s Travon Walker went to Jacksonville with the first overall pick.

Buckeyes to host Golden Flashes in 2026

Ohio State will host Kent State at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 19, 2026.

The two teams have met three times previously, with Ohio State winning all three games played at Ohio Stadium.

The Buckeyes now have six games scheduled against six different Mid-American Conference programs between 2022 and 2028.
