Woman, 63, shot to death on SE Side

COLUMBUS – Detectives say the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of an elderly Southeast Side woman are still unclear.

Marvita McCaskill was found lying behind a home between Berkeley Road and Lilley Avenue, south of Gault Street, suffering from a gunshot wound, by officers responding to a report of gunfire at 8:49 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit said.

Despite the officers rendering first aid, the 63-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Shimberg said.

The investigation continues.
