COLUMBUS – Columbus police have arrested a man and charged him with murder in the death of a woman during a domestic disturbance in the Driving Park neighborhood Thursday night.
Stewart Butler, 64, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Marchelle Freeman just before 11:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of E. Sycamore Street, Sgt. Michael Smith of the Homicide Unit said.
Officers responding to a reported shooting found the 60-year-old Freeman suffering from a gunshot wound and Columbus Division of Fire paramedics her dead at the scene, Smith said.
The preliminary investigation revealed domestic violence was a possible motive for the shooting, which remains under investigation, Smith said.
