Youths accused of making school threats

LOGAN – Two girls have been arrested on charges, including making terroristic threats, after a social media post that officials say contained a specific threat to Logan-Hocking Middle School prompted the district to cancel classes Tuesday.

A social media post containing a specific threat that something was supposed to take place Tuesday morning at Logan-Hocking Middle School was shared by a large number of people Tuesday evening, district superintendent Monte Bainter said in a posting on the district’s website.

Logan police and the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office received numerous calls and after an investigation that involved the questioning of several juveniles and the seizure of cell phones as evidence, the two girls were arrested in the afternoon, Bainter said.

The juveniles were transported to the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center in Lancaster and will be arraigned in Hocking County Juvenile Court at a later date on charges of making terroristic threats with additional charges pending further investigation, Bainter said.

Classes resumed in the district Wednesday with strict security precautions in place.
