3 dead in separate shooting incidents

COLUMBUS – Three men were killed and one injured in shooting incidents in Columbus over the weekend, police said.

Investigators are still searching for clues in an early morning homicide in the Short North, which has seen a troubling increase in violent incidents in recent weeks.

At approximately 2:44 a.m. Sunday, Columbus police officers in the area of E. First Street and N. High Street responded to a report of a fight in the area.

According to information from the homicide unit, the officers heard gunfire as they approached the scene and found Arthur Pickens lying in front of a Donato’s pizza restaurant at 920 N. High Street suffering from a gunshot wound.

Pickens, 21, was transported to OSU Wexner Medical Center where he died at 3:07 a.m., police said.

The incident is still under investigation.

Jawaun Fain was killed when someone fired gunshots into his Clintonville apartment at approximately 9:18 p.m. Friday night, according to Sgt. James Marable of the homicide unit.

Officers called to the 3200 block of N. High Street on a report of a shooting found the 22-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Fain was inside his home when shots were fired at the apartment and at least one of the rounds entered the apartment and struck him, Marable said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Marable said.

A shooting in the King-Lincoln-Bronzeville neighborhood on the East Side Friday afternoon left one man dead and another wounded, Sgt. David Shimberg said.

Officers responding to a shooting in the 900 Block of Mt. Vernon Avenue on a shooting just before 1:30 p.m. found the victims a short distance north of the location, Shimberg said.

Javon Tucker, 22, was unresponsive and transported to a local area hospital where died at 1:58 p.m.

The second victim suffered a minor gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital where Shimberg says he is expected to recover.

UPDATE 6/13/23 5:09 p.m.:
Davon Robinson, 32, was arrested on May 17 in connection with this incident and Charles Calaway, 30,was arrested on June 10 in Norton, Va., Shimberg said. Both men have been charged with murder in the shooting.
