COLUMBUS – A Columbus woman pleaded not guilty on Friday to aggravated murder and other charges in the death of her 5-year-old foster son whose body was found in a sewer drain after his disappearance prompted an Amber Alert.
Pammy Maye, 48, also faces charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse in the death of Darnell Taylor, whose body was found on Feb. 16, two days after Maye told her husband the child was no longer alive and then abruptly left her Reeb Avenue home as he spoke with a 911 dispatcher, prompting police to issue an Amber Alert.
She was ordered held on $4 million bond.
Maye was taken into custody on Feb. 15 in Brooklyn, a Cleveland suburb and she told investigators where they could find the boy’s body.
Speaking at a court hearing last month, prosecutors said Maye was previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and had exhibited possessive and controlling behavior in the past.
NE Ohio Amber Alert cancelled after child found safe
An Amber Alert issued Friday afternoon for a missing Akron-area boy was cancelled when the child was recovered safely, authorities said.
Two-year-old Sutton Eggeman was sleeping in the backseat of a pickup truck when the vehicle was taken from a Dollar General store on S. Main Street in Marshallville, in Wayne County, just after 2:10 p.m., according to the alert.
The boy was found unharmed in Akron a short time later and a 51-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, according to media reports.
